Egg Mushroom

Egg Mushroom (タマゴキノコ = Tamago Kinoko) is a key item in Luminous Arc 3. It is a mushroom similar to a puffball, with a hat resembling and egg (hence the name, Egg Mushroom).

Egg Mushrooms grow only on Mount Mabel, where a very dangerous monster called Behemoth has its nest. It's safe to pick them at the Behemoth hibernation season, but the Magus need it in spring, when the annual Witch Festival takes place.

Sara's Intrigue

In Chapter 6, Sara convinces Inaluna in secret, that the Egg Mushroom can make people fall in love with each other. She does it, because she knows about Inaluna's crush on Levi and that the princess is going to get the Egg Mushroom despite it growing in a very dangerous place (Mount Mabel). It's Sara's intrigue to get the Egg Mushroom for her own purposes.

Romantic Properties

Egg Mushroom possesess magical properties. One of them is supposed to be the ability to make people fall in love with each other, hence its other name the Awakening of Love. In Chapter 7 we learn that it's more about physical than romantic love, when Sara calls the Egg Mushroom an "adult magic item", which probably means aphrodisiac.

Magical Properties

According to legend, Egg Mushroom was the true form of Witches Eye, an item that symbolizes witch's gratitude. According to Valerie:

In the legend, the Holy Witch and Anogia were saved by an angel.

So probably Egg Mushroom was a gift from the Holy Witch to the Angel as a thanks for saving her and Anogia. In Chapter 7, Egg Mushroom is used by Levi to find the six seals (keyboards) which open the way to the Lost Magic Book sealed by the Holy Witch Siville.

In Chapter 8 Sara uses Egg Mushroom to cast the forbidden curse of time reversal in the Sandalwood Forest. She accidentally summons Angel Miria's shadow and black kopins. Sion comes to help her. Meanwhile Elle hears true Angel Miria voice and leads Magus to help sisters fight.

In Chapter 11, Sara reminds herself that in a certain book there is a passage saying: "To further enhance the magic of the Witches Eye, purify your eyes in the Holy Witch Spring, the light of life in the frozen valley". Somehow she comes up with an idea that Witches Eye might point at Star Eyes. To test that, during the summer camp, Magus soak the Egg Mushroom in the Holy Witch Spring and it changes its shape into lapistier-like.

Cooking Properties

According to Elle and Heine:

Elle: It's a precious mushroom that grows on Mount Mabel. It's syrupy inside like a raw egg.
Elle: When used as a cream sauce, the texture is very mellow...
Heine: It's perfect for pasta.

After the Witch Festival is over, the most of remaining Egg Mushrooms are used to make pasta at the Urgard's Cafeteria.
